Going Geek: Ten Tiny Breaths & One Tiny Lie
I've been reading so much books lately as a way of coping up. I love how I found new favorite books after reading it, and been learning with it after all.
Ten Tiny Breaths is one brilliant read. It started with Kacey and Livie Cleary running away from home. They both started to live their own lives alone, with Kacey having no idea on how to raise her own sister after what happened to her. Kacey suffered a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for she had a drunk-driving car accident four years ago, that killed her parents, her boyfriend, and her bestfriend all at the same time. She was the only person who survived the accident, leaving her and her sister Livie under their aunt and uncle's care; until their uncle tried to touch Livie one night, that was when Kacey decided that they'll move away... to Miami. It was hard for Kacey to go on living, having nightmares every single day and fighting to let people in. Then they met Storm and her daughter Mia, their neighbor who apparently became a great help to them. Kacey hated meeting people, she had a trauma shaking people's hands for her boyfriend died holding her hand... until Trent came into her life. Trent gives Kacey something that she never felt for a long time -- for she feels alive whenever Trent is around her, and she craved for him more than she could imagine. Trent held Kacey's hand one night she was working on Penny's, and it was the first time holding someone's hand was okay for her. Trent starting to do everything to make Kacey smile and happy; he does everything to take care of her, even push her to attend group support and to ask for help. But Kacey couldn't handle people talking about what happened to them, it just refreshes the memory she has on how she lost everyone she loves. Trent on the other side kept appreciating and loving Kacey more, and with a brilliant twist a story could have... Trent also had an unforgivable past that shattered Kacey's life once more. Kacey had to seek professional help after knowing who the real Trent is, she refused it at first; but Dr. Stayner was a blessing in disguise for the both of them. After all, Kacey had forgiven Trent for what happened and after a few months, they met again and loved each other more since then. Her mother always kept telling her before when something happens that she should just breathe, ten tiny breaths... Seize them. Feel them. Love them. She never knew what it meant before, until she understood what it really means.
Its sequel was a remarkable surprise for me. I thought it was like some books: a sequel that will discuss the perspective of the other character. I was expecting to read about Trent, but to my surprise, One Tiny Lie is about Livie's life. It was such a wonderful move for Tucker to focus on Cleary sisters, not just on Kacey and Trent's story. It's Livie's story: how she started living her college life on her own, knowing if she's been living what she wanted all along... or if she's just living a lie to make her father proud. She started her Princeton dream, taking up pediatrics for she wanted to help children since she was young. Livie was always in the right path, never questioning her life, her wants, and on what people wanted her to be. Until Dr. Stayner told her the truth that made her starting to search for who she is. She was always nervous around guys. One night, when a toga party was held on one house near Princeton, Livie had a time of her life. She drunk as many shots as she can, having her sister Kacey beside her to guide her; but a guy stole her first kiss. It was Ashton, the captain of the rowing team of Princeton, the most handsome guy in the campus stole her first kiss. She did things she doesn't even remember that night, waking up with Ashton sleeping naked in their dormroom. Since then, she cannot take away Ashton in her head. Then she met Connor, the guy of her dreams -- roommate and bestfriend of Ashton. The kind of guy she pictured out to be with, the kind of guy she always wanted to have. But something is just isn't right; with the perfect Connor there to sweep away her feet, Livie seems to be confused whenever Ashton is around. Ashton and Livie began knowing more from each other one day when Ashton drove Livie to Manhattan for her volunteer service in one of the hospitals there. She started taking care of Erik and Derek, leukemia patients that made her question what she wanted to become for the first time in her life. It was then when Ashton helped Livie to forgot things, making them fall for each other more. Livie knew that there was more from Ashton after she saw his scars, covered by tattoos just like what Kacey did to cover hers. It was after the Halloween Party when Livie gave everything to Ashton after they both had a bad day, and Connor knew about it the next day. Livie didn't knew how to handle it, so she went home to Miami, told everything to Kacey and they both cried with each other after everything that they've been through. After two weeks, Livie went back to Princeton, doing one last task Dr. Stayner have given her. She went to a small home for the aged, and surprisingly, Dr. Stayner led her to Ashton -- where her mom is, who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. It was when Ashton told Livie everything about his life, his mother, his father who hurt him when he's a child, who dictated everything in his life since then... threatening him that he'll stop supporting his mother if he will not follow. It was Dr. Stayner who saved everything, talked to Ashton's father, and gave him evidence that could ruin his name. Ashton was free since then, giving him and Livie a happy start after all. Livie still continued her study after the first semester, then she went back to Miami to figure out what she wanted to do in her life. Soon enough, Ashton made her decision easier for he followed Livie there. It was a happy ending after all, having Kacey and Trent, Livie and Ashton, Storm and Dan... and the whole gang having the family they always wanted.
What a wonderful read it has been! It was a roller coaster of emotions upon reading this two, crying and feeling happy with Kacey and Livie's life adventure. I was surprised on how these took me to different places, swooning with their guys and craving to know what will happen next. I even hard a hard time putting these books down, having worth it sleepless nights just to continue wanting to read them. It will also teach you that life is a series of trial and error; that it will be okay to make mistakes, that it will be okay to stumble and fall until you'll figure out what you really want in your life. Ahh, I really loved these two books, and I'm looking forward to the next one! I heard it will be Cain's story (just read the books so you'll know who he is) and I bet it will be awesome as ever. I just wonder why K.A. Tucker loves broken people, haha. It was lovely on how two broken people found a way to each other, found a way to heal each other. A must read, I must say. It has a whole different attack that made both books wonderful. You won't regret knowing Kacey and Livie Cleary, with Trent Emerson and Ashton Henley on the side!! Ha! :)
This year has been my reading year I guess? But I'm loving it!♥
